Wiseson Kuang, 19, from Timaru, has focused intently on integrating his Kiwi upbringing with his Chinese heritage. Now studying in Christchurch, Wiseson actively participates in university clubs centred around Commerce and Political Science and was a member of the Christchurch Youth Council in 2023. His curiosity about how societal mechanisms function has driven his interest in policy’s role in addressing global issues like climate change. Wiseson’s academic prowess is reflected in his receipt of multiple scholarships, including the NZQA Scholarship Health Award for his extensive research on educational inequity, and the prestigious Te Kakau A Maui Scholarship which covers his tuition fees. Selected to attend the ASF Youth Assembly, this grant will support his engagement with global peers, enhancing his cultural intelligence and understanding of international challenges. Over the next twelve months, Wiseson plans to complete significant research projects and secure an internship, aiming to influence economic policy after completing his postgraduate studies and broadening his global perspective.
